The new Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre is a ma-jor addition to health sciences facilities in Melbourne. This one billion dollar State Government construction is a high complexed facility as well as providing a stunning visual streetscape in Elizabeth Street in Melbourne. The car park is a multilevel internal installation with access direct to the building.
In keeping with the overall brief for the building, the deck surfaces had to meet stringent requirements for durability, aesthetics, texture and VOC / green building compliance.
Sika solution
The constructor, Grocon was familiar with Sika system and the installer, Able Industrial Floors for previous projects in-cluding recently completed building park decks in Footscray as well as the MCG.
The selection of textures and colours was completed by the client in consultation with Sika and Able Industrial Floors. Able Industrial Floors, with their experience in multi- level car park applications delivered an outstanding result using Sikaf-loor 264/ 264T to the decks and Sikafloor 263NS on the ramp-ways, along with Sikaflex Tank in all movement joints. There was also a particular requirement in associated plant-rooms due to the possibility of subsequent maintenance of the coatings and the sensitivity of the air quality to the inte-rior of the building.
The solution was to install Sikafloor 31 PurCem water based polyurethane coating that delivers ultra-low level of VOC grams per litre. PurCem complies and is certified to stringent CSM European standards for Cleanroom environments.
The result is a Sikalfoor system that is in keeping with the high standards required for the project and will stand the test of time.
