Joint dimensions and shapes in facades are subject to changes due to thermal expansion and contraction of the building units. The corresponding movements must be accommodated by the sealant in order to protect the inner parts of the building against environmental influences.
Depending on region & climate exterior insulations on facades are today a standard design on new buildings. Especially for energy-related renovations this system is an ideal solution. In exterior insulating systems joints must be considered particularly. Because of the thin plaster layer and the relatively weak substrate the sealant must be selected carefully in order not to apply an excessive load.
Sika’s flexible, low modulus and long lasting sealants are able to absorb these movements and avoid high forces on joint edges and therefore ensure tight and durable joints.
