Parramatta
Project Background
Sika has collaborated with the architect and principal builder on the flooring project at the ABC News studio in Parramatta Square. The requirement is for an extremely durable, flat flooring system with a maximum tolerance of 1mm per 3m. This system must support 500 kg filming robots that will traverse the floor. Following site visits with engineers and the construction manager, we recommended the Multi Dur ES-24 flooring system to meet the project's specifications. Additionally, we specified Sikafloor Level ULTRA and MonoTop 910 for leveling and treating exposed areas before applying the Multi Dur system.
Project Information
The flooring project took place at the ABC News studio in Parramatta Square, where Sika collaborated closely with the architect and principal builder. The objective was to deliver a high-performance flooring system that could withstand the demands of a professional filming environment. Given the nature of the studio, the floor needed to be extremely durable, smooth, and precisely leveled to ensure seamless operations.
Project Requirements
The flooring system required an exceptionally flat surface with a maximum tolerance of 1mm per 3m to accommodate 500 kg filming robots that would frequently traverse the floor. This meant that any imperfections or unevenness could disrupt filming operations. To meet these stringent requirements, Sika conducted site visits with engineers and the construction manager before recommending the Multi Dur ES-24 flooring system. Additionally, Sikafloor Level ULTRA and MonoTop 910 were specified for leveling and treating exposed areas before applying the Multi Dur system.
Sika Solution
Drawing from our successful track record in flooring for several filming studios, we recognise the critical importance of achieving extreme flat tolerances and creating a floor capable of handling constant wheeling by filming robots.
To meet these requirements, we placed our trust in a 3-4mm self-smoothing epoxy system. As an additional precaution, we recommended a double priming process using Sikafloor 161 to prevent any pin holing into the self-smoothing epoxy. The final coat consisted of a clear sacrificial layer, leaving no room for patching holes or imperfections.
The flawless finish of the self-levelling epoxy was essential from the outset, as there was no opportunity for subsequent repairs. Leveraging the excellent self-smoothing properties of Sikafloor 236 SL and employing precise spike rolling techniques, the project was completed to the client's 100% satisfaction.
