These wet rooms are often the first to show signs of wear, with discoloured grout, worn sealant and even mould spots if the room isn’t well ventilated.
- Spend time on your tiles. Nothing lets a bathroom down more than loose tiles, so replace damaged ones and freshen up the grouting in-between. Use Sikaflex®-118 Extreme Grab to adhere a broken tile and grout with Davco Easy Grout.
- Protect the room from mould. In such a humid setting, mould is rife – first ensure that any mould is removed from the area then use a mould resistant, sanitary grade silicone sealant like Sikaseal® Kitchen and Bathroom for best results.
- Swap out old fittings and use a good sealant. Showerheads, taps and even your toilet seat can be switched for new ones if they’ve seen better days.
- When waterproofing, always observe inter-coat times as applying a subsequent coat over an incomplete cured previous coat can greatly affect the performance of the membrane and the time it takes to completely cure. Ensure good ventilation and air circulation around the application to ensure drying efficiency. Generally a fan is adequate to provide circulation. Hot dry conditions will accelerate waterproofng cure times and reduce inter-coat periods.
