EQUIPMENT
- Personal protective equipment
- Grout float / squeegee
- Microfibre cloth
- Grouting sponge
- Bucket with clean water
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
- All surfaces must be installed according to manufacturer’s instructions and relevant Australian Standard(s) and be structurally sound, dry, clean and free from movement, oil, grease, wax, sealers, curing compounds, release agents and any other loose or contaminating material
- Ensure tile adhesive is completely set and dried
- Remove all tile spacers from the joint areas
- Ensure joints are clean, dry and free from excess adhesive as well as any other loose or contaminating material
MIXING
Stir thoroughly by hand before use. DO NOT ADD ANY WATER.
APPLICATION
- Slightly moisten the tile surface with a wet, clean micro-fibre cloth to improve the workability.
- Apply to the grout joint using a float or squeegee, spread diagonally across the joint. Ensure you fill the joint completely without any voids and gaps. Failure to fully pack joints may result in shallow grout joints.
- Remove excess grout from the tile surface, holding the float at almost a 90° angle to the surface and moving the float diagonally to the joints while the grout is still fresh. The grout surface should be flush with the tile edge.
- Cleaning should begin after the surface of the grout develops a dry, skinned-over appearance (5-10 minutes after the application depending on temperature, humidity and nature of the tiles)
- Clean off excess grout and evenly shape the grout joints by laying a damp sponge on the tile surface and lightly wiping in a circular motion
- Finish the application with a single diagonal wipe to the tile surface with a well wrung sponge. If the water in the bucket becomes dirty, replace with clean water. Be aware that using too much water (referring to a saturated sponge as opposed to a damp sponge) during clean-up, or allowing water to sit on the surface of the grout can dilute the polymer binder and cause curing issues resulting in grout failure
- After the grout firms up (approximately 1 hour), some grout haze may still remain on the tiles. With clean water and a very well wrung clean micro-fibre cloth, wipe the tile surface in a circular buffing motion
- Wait 7 days before exposing grouted area to household cleaners. Do not use acidic or vinegar solutions for clean up.
CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
Tools and equipment can be clean with water prior to the grout setting.
