Tasmania
Project overview:
The Saffire Freycinet Resort, located on Tasmania’s gorgeous East Coast is considered a coastal sanctuary, delivering sophisticated and intimate style and an inspirational experience. Discreetly positioned overlooking the Hazards Mountains, Freycinet Peninsula and the pristine waters of Great Oyster Bay, Saffire blends mankind and nature with breathtaking beauty.
The resort topped Australian Traveller’s 100 Greatest Holidaysof All Time accommodation list, was an award-winner in Andrew Harper’s January 2014 Hideaway Report and has been named The World’s Best Boutique Hotel at the recent Boutique Hotel Awards held in London.
The World Boutique Hotel Awards is the first and only international awards scheme exclusively dedicated to recognizing unique excellence among luxury boutique hotels.
Designed by Morris Nunn Architects, this uniquely designed Hotel consists of 22 luxury villas, exclusive day spa, restaurant, guest lounge and bar. The suites feature reverse fall roofs while the main lodge, located in the centre of the complex, incorporates a large, organically shaped roof, replicating the shape of a stingray when viewed from above.
Project requirements:
Given the park receives on average 600mm of rain per year yet manages more than 300 days of sunshine in a year, the Architect and owner required a waterproofing solution for both the suites and main building, that would protect this valuable asset in the extreme Tasmanian climate while also aesthetically integrating into the whole design of the resort.
After discussions between Sika and the architects, Sarnafil, Sika’s sheet waterproofing membrane, having been used to waterproof green roofs and other landscaped areas worldwide.
Sika solution:
Sarnafil G410-15L Felt (RAL 7031) Blue Grey was fully adhered directly to the ply wood substrate on the suites and stingray shaped building with Sarnacol 2142S while box gutters on the suites were fully lined with the Sarnafil system to provide a guaranteed, long term waterproof solution.
