Project Background
Signature Beef has recently constructed a new $37 million processing facility in Central Queensland. This is the first Greenfield site abattoir built in Queensland in 20 years.
Project Description
Bryant Building Contractors, the Head Constructor, engaged Sika to propose a flooring system for the production areas of the plant. Sika also assisted with planning and detailing to align with the overall construction. Apex Flooring was selected as the installer due to its extensive experience with food-related projects in Queensland.
Project Requirements
The client required a flooring system with a proven history in meat processing facilities both in Australia and internationally. The key requirements were:
- Ability to withstand constant loading
- Resistance to food and cleaning chemicals
- Durability against cycles of hot water washdowns
- Easy maintenanceLow VOC emissions
- Food Grade HACCP approvalFast installation on-site
Sika Solution
Sikafloor PurCem was chosen as the flooring system due to its proven performance in food processing environments. The specific solution included:
Sikafloor HB-22 PurCem: 9mm Heavy Poly/Cement system
Jointing Solution: Sikaflex Tank high-wear and chemical-resistant polyurethane sealant
