Wulkaraka, Brisbane
Project Background
Asahi Beverages extended their existing facility in Wulkaraka, located in Queensland's South East industrial precinct. This large, state-of-the-art bottling line was designed to meet the growing demand for bottled beverages in the region. The facility is capable of high-capacity bottling, warehousing, and distribution, while also offering a visually appealing environment for workers, customers, and investors.
Project Description
The new facility was designed to incorporate:
- A showroom-style design for aesthetic appeal.
- Open-plan areas where warehousing and production zones are visible.
- Safe and functional walkways as well as no-slip areas, particularly in wash bays, to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
Project Requirements
The project required flooring systems tailored to the food and beverage industry, with specific considerations for:
- Durability: Floors needed to withstand heavy usage in bottling and distribution activities.
- Fit-for-Purpose: Flooring had to be resistant to the rigors of the production environment.
- Ease of Maintenance: Floors needed to be easy to clean and maintain for operational efficiency and hygiene compliance.
- Consistency: Alignment with flooring solutions in other Asahi facilities across the country was essential.
Sika Solution
Sika collaborated with CIP Builders and Apex Epoxy Flooring to provide a flooring system tailored to the facility's unique needs. The solution involved:
Product Selection: Sikafloor PurCem was chosen for its proven performance in similar applications.
Comprehensive Flooring System: The installation combined various flooring technologies, including:
- General-purpose epoxies.
- 2-3mm high-performance epoxies.
- 5-6mm polyurethane cement.
- Concrete densifiers for added strength.
Timely Execution: The flooring system was successfully installed within the construction timeline, ensuring that the facility met its operational and design objectives.
