The laundry falls into the category of the one of the most boring yet practical spaces in the average Australian home. Generally, people don’t love spending money on the laundry but it is important not to let this workhorse-of-a-room slide, especially if you are renovating for a profit. Here are our tips on how to maximise your return on investment and create a drool-worthy laundry space (it’s not as hard as you may think!).

Simple and easy DIY ideas for the laundry

  • Changing hardware is a simple way to elevate the look and feel of the laundry without spending too much money. And let’s be honest, most handles and taps in the laundry could do with a bit of love after working non-stop for years.
  • Add wall-mounted shelving for easy storage for all of those clothes washing essentials, and buy some small baskets for smaller items to create a neat and tidy space.

How to tile over tile
 
Changing the look of tiling, without having to rip anything out, is a possibility with some laundry DIY projects. If you’re doing a tile-over-tile job you need a product that will bound securely. 

First, clean the old tiles with Davco Tile & Grout Cleaner so you’re working with clean surfaces. If the surface isn’t spotless there is a risk of product failure and your new tiles won’t look their best.

Next, prime the surface using Davco Ultrabond. Apply two coats 45 minutes apart, then wait for it to dry, which will take between six and eight hours.

Davo SMP Evo is the ideal tile adhesive for laying new tiles over existing tiles. After mixing apply evenly to the thickness of toothpaste.
 
Next, lay the tiles and leave to cure for a day.
 

Finally, add the grout to the new tiles. Davco Easy Grout is pre-mixed and ready to use.

Tip: bright white grout provides a modern look when using white tiles, especially if you’re opting for a matt tile.
