Compatibility
Shall not be used on substrates:
- EPS/XPS insulation boards
- Copper plate
- Bituminous substrates
- Waterproofing membranes (thermoplastics/elastomers) excluding soft PVC
These materials could adversely affect the product properties.
Application
Ambient air temperature
+5 °C min
Substrate temperature
+5 °C min
Consumption
~300 g/m2–500 g/m2 up to 1000 g/m2 on very absorbent substrates.
Consumption depends on the roughness and absorbency of the substrate.
These figures are theoretical and do not allow for any additional material due to surface porosity, surface profile, variations in level or wastage etc.
SUBSTRATE QUALITY
The substrate must offer sufficient strength and adhesion to resist the forces generated by wind suction.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The substrate must be resistant to solvents and must be firm, clean, dry, free from oil, grease, dust, stripping agents and loose friable particles. Sheet metal must be cleaned with Sarna Cleaner before adhesive is applied.
APPLICATION
Reference must be made to further documentation where applicable, such as relevant method statement, application manual and installation or working instructions.
General information
Sarnacol®-2170 must be stirred carefully before use. Keep adhesive container closed whenever adhesive is not being used to keep workability constant (to reduce solvent evaporation).
Viscosity of the Sarnacol®-2170 contact adhesive can be changed and adapted by adding Sarna Cleaner. It may be necessary to modify the viscosity after prolonged storage or if container was opened for long periods of time. Mix Sarna Cleaner into the adhesive by carefully stirring small quantities into the adhesive to achieve the desired viscosity.
Use Sarna Cleaner to remove adhesive residue from the roof membrane.
Contact bonding procedure (Sarnafil® G-types on substrates and for perimeter / flashing details)
Spread adhesive evenly onto the substrate using an application roller. Do not apply the adhesive to an area greater than can be covered in one day. Allow the adhesive to dry completely. Apply 2 coats of adhesive on absorbent substrates (the first coat must be completely dry before the second is applied).
Apply the adhesive evenly on the underside of the roof membrane (note: welding seam overlap area must be free of adhesive). Once the adhesive has been allowed to evaporate sufficiently (finger test), apply the membrane onto the substrate adhesive. Press down firmly on the membrane using a suitable pressure roller.
At locations which will be exposed to stresses immediately after bonding (edges), Sarnafil® G-types can also be heated externally by means of a heat source (Sarnafil® heat gun) then pressed down immediately using a suitable pressure roller.
Wet bonding procedure (Sarnafil® G Felt-types on substrates)
Spread adhesive evenly onto the substrate using an application roller. Do not apply the adhesive to an area greater than can be covered in one day. Allow the adhesive to dry completely. Apply a second coat of adhesive over the substrate. Apply the membrane onto the wet substrate adhesive. Press down firmly on the membrane using a suitable pressure roller.
CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
Clean all tools and application equipment with Sika® Sarna Cleaner immediately after use. Hardened material can only be mechanically removed
