SUBSTRATE QUALITY
- Substrate Deflection: All substrates under loads must not exceed L/360 to tiles and L/720 for stone applications.
- Substrates must be properly cured, structurally sound, free from loose or friable articles, clean, dry and free from contaminates such as dust, dirt, oil, grease, curing compounds, laitance or efflorescence.
- Dependant on the substrate condition and contamination to be removed from the surface, perform adequate preparation techniques, such as water blasting, scarification, or blast cleaning in order to remove all traces of any materials that could reduce the products adhesion to the substrate.
- For tiling wet areas, and external applications ensure falls are correct to avoid water ponding.
CONCRETE FLOORS: Early aged concrete must be a minimum 7 days old. Concrete shall be left with an open pores surface. Steel trowel finishes are generally acceptable if they accept water penetration. Wood Float and broom finishes are preferred where possible.
CEMENT MORTAR BEDS / SCREEDS: Mortar beds / screeds must be installed as per AS 3958. Screeds must be a minimum 24 hour old at 22°C & 50% R.H per 25mm of thickness.
SHEETED / BOARD SUBSTRATES: All boards / underlays must be fixed in accordance to manufacturer's instructions and specifically designed for tiling.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
Prime substrates with a suitable Sika primer.
Porous substrates: SikaTile 010 Secure Prime
Non Porous Primer: SikaTile 015 Prep n Prime
Refer to the specific instruction on the primer product data sheet.
Do not apply primers directly over under tile waterproofing membranes
MIXING
Pour clean cool water into a mixing container and gradually pour the SikaTile®-366 Pro Flex powder into the bucket and stir with a mixing drill . Mix for 2-3 minutes to a smooth lump free homogeneous consistency. Allow the product to stand (slake) for 5 minutes then restir for an additional minute. Do not add more water. Restirring the mixture may be required during the adhesives pot life.
APPLICATION
- Ensure the backs of tiles are clean and free from dust and contaminates.
- Apply the adhesive to the substrate with the appropriate sized notched trowel to achieve coverage requirement on both substrate and the back of the tile. Tiles may require back-buttering to achieve minimum coverage requirements.
- Apply the adhesive with a notched trowel in a single direction. Apply the tile, while pressing into the wet adhesive, break the adhesive ridges with the tile to fully bed the tile into the adhesive.
- It is advisable to periodically check the backs of the tiles for adhesive coverage requirements as per AS 3958
- Only apply as must adhesive that can be covered prior to adhesive skinning. If skinning occurs remove and replace.
- Remove any excess adhesive from the face of the tile with a damp sponge and ensure grout joint are of uniform depth.
- Movement, expansion and control joints must be installed as per AS 3958:2023
- For tile over tile applications, existing tiling must be adequately cleaned prior to application. Ensure existing tiling is sound and free from defect. Prime existing tiles with SikaTile 015 Prep n Prime and allow to dry prior to application.
CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT
Tools and equipment can be cleaned with water while the adhesive is still wet.
