The much anticipated refurbishment of the Great Southern Stand is nearing completion. Constructed in 1991 the architecturally attractive structure was considered in need of some updating and refurbishment of amenities and facilities to reflect the recently completed Members Stand. Sikafloor finishes were used throughout on this project.

An important part of this work was to bring all floor surfaces up to the standard of the rest of the stadium.

As well as the existing floors for reference Sika referred to many successful stadium projects within Australia and worldwide.

Sika solution

Sikafloor resilient epoxy  floor finishes were selected for the entire project. Danlaid Contracting, a nationally recommended Sikafloor installer were the contractors.

In the original build, all of the surfaces were left as concrete only which, over time, became stained a drab in appearance.

This contrasted dramatically with the aesthetically pleasing floors on the Members Stand.

Concourse walkways, seating plats, stairways, food delivery and amenities areas required finishes that would give brightness in appearance and light reflectivity.

Another important benefit is ease of cleaning post major events. Durability was also a key factor.Texture for non slip to Australian Standards R10 was required for safety in a public amenity , whilst also being easy to clean.

A combination of options were used on the project, with Sikafloor 264 being used in most public areas; and Sikafloor 2530W on the seating plats around the stadium.

The MCG facilities reconstruction and upgrade program for the modern era is now complete. Sikafloor,  with a variety of finishes and colours will deliver a long term flooring solution for this world class sporting stadium
