Drake Supermarket Meat Processing

Drake Supermarkets are the largest independent supermarket chain in Australia. They own and operate 50 stores throughout South Australia and Queensland.
Recently they designed and constructed a new feed meat processing facility in Adelaide to supply and service their stores with fresh cuts of meat daily from a central point.

This facility is vital to their supply chain and the importance of the floor they have to work off was emphasised at the design stage.

The owner didn’t want standard epoxy floors or tiles from previous experience.
The floor had to reliable and stand up to the constant rigors of heavy wheeled traffic, hard wheeled trolleys, impact from utensils and chemical hot water wash-down.

Sika solution

Drakes consulted Sika Aust as well as experienced industrial flooring and waterproofing contractors Poly-tech Industrial Services for advice on the most appropriate floor systems for meat processing.
There were also important design details such as coving construction, edge and drain terminations and joints to be treated in a manner that would offer the most durable solution.
Sika and Poly-tech worked together to present the optimum in food flooring, and as a result Poly-tech industrial installed Sikafloor 22 PurCem system. Poly-tech were chosen for their demonstrated success in food industry installations over the last 25 years.

PurCem is a hard wearing, tough, impact abrasion and chemical resistant seamless resin floor. PurCem is a water based/ cement Polyurethane floor that is also fast to install and low VOC.

PurCem has a proven record in food and beverage facilities worldwide for over 25 years.

Phil Shayler, operations Manager for the site is very happy with the performance of the floor.  The facility has only been operating for a short time but it being exposed to full daily traffic and looks as good as when it was installed.
