Sikasil® Industrial

Premium silicone adhesive sealant

Sikasil® Industrial is a premium, neutral-curing silicone adhesive sealant which displays excellent adhesion to a wide range of substrates and provides a permanent, flexible bond or seal.

Usage

Sikasil® Industrial is a multipurpose product designed for interior and exterior use in a broad range of industrial bonding and sealing applications such as: - General glazing and weather sealing
- Sealing joints in wet areas (kitchen, bathroom)
- Sealing roof, gutter, skylight, cladding and water tank joints
- Electrical and maintenance work
- Bonding light components and sealing joints in shipping containers, caravans and other vehicle bodies This product is suitable for professional experienced users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

Technical Information

CURE MECHANISM

Sikasil® Industrial cures by reaction with atmospheric moisture. The reaction starts at the surface and proceeds to the core of the joint. The curing speed depends on the relative humidity and the temperature. At low temperatures the water content of the air is lower and the curing reaction proceeds more slowly.

Surface preparation

Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and dust.
Advice on specific applications is available from the Technical Service Department of Sika Industry.

Application

To minimise smearing of surfaces with excess sealant, masking tape can first be applied to surrounding surfaces.

Cut the nozzle to the desired bead size then apply a continuous bead as required. For bonding, apply bead to only one surface. For sealing, push the sealant into the joint as it is being applied to ensure good wet out onto the surface.

Assemble parts and/or tool off any excess sealant before it skins over, then immediately remove any masking tape.

Removal

Uncured, excess Sikasil® Industrial may be removed with Sika® Remover-208 or another suitable solvent. Once cured, the material can only be removed mechanically.

Hands and exposed skin should be cleaned immediately using SikaCleaner®- 350H or a suitable industrial hand cleaner and water.

Do not use solvents!

 

Overpainting

Sikasil® Industrial cannot be overpainted. If a similar but overpaintable product is required, consider using Sikaflex®-221 adhesive sealant.

Application limits

Sikasil® Industrial is not recommended for use in:
- structrual glazing
- below waterline applications (except as a mechanically compressed gasket seal)
- sealing joints subject to heavy traffic
- pre-stressed polycarbonate or other plastic surfaces that are prone to stress cracking
- direct contact with bituminous substrates or other materials that may bleed oils, plasticisers or solvents (e.g. some rubbers)
- granite, marble and other natural stone joints which are prone to staining
Joints deeper than 15 mm should be avoided.

The compatibility of gaskets, backer rods and other accessory materials with Sikasil® Industrial must be tested in advance.
