SikaShield® P58 T Testudo 5 mm
SikaShield® P58 T Testudo 5 mm is an APP modified bituminous waterproofing membrane with a thickness of 5mm. It is reinforced with a non-woven polyester fabric dimensionally stabilised with glass fibre and is flexible at -15 °C. The top surface is coated with talc, which ensures the bond of the overlying layer and fast welding of the joints. The underside of the product has a burn-off film for easy torch-application.

Storage conditions
The Product must be stored in original unopened and undamaged packaging in dry conditions and temperatures between +5 °C and +35 °C. Store in a vertical position. Do not stack pallets of the rolls on top of each other, or under pallets of any other materials during transport or storage. Always refer to packaging.

SUBSTRATE QUALITY
SYSTEM DESIGN
Consider the following when designing the system:
The supporting structure must be of sufficient structural strength to support all new and existing layers of the system build-up.
If used as a roof system, the complete system must be designed to withstand and be secured against wind uplift loadings.
SUBSTRATE CONDITION
The substrate surface must be uniform, firm, smooth and free of any sharp protrusion or burrs, clean, dry, free of grease, laitance, oil, dust and loosely adhering particles.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
PRIMING
Apply Sika® Igolflex P-10+ primer at a rate of 6-8m2 per litre.Note: Consumption rates will vary depending onsubstrate type and porosity.
APPLICATION
IMPORTANT
- At low temperatures, take care unrolling to avoid damaging the membrane.
- Use suitable footwear to avoid puncturing the membrane.
- Do not apply to wet, damp or unclean surfaces
- Do not over-torch the membrane otherwise the polyester reinforcement (which melts at 260 °C) will be damaged making the membrane un-useable.
- If membrane is insufficiently heated, this can cause reduced adhesion to the substrate, between layers or on the overlaps. If this occurs, un-bonded areas must be lifted and re-torched.
- If a seasonal symbol is printed on the roll’s label, it is advisable to use the membrane during the indicated season.
ALIGNMENT
Unroll, align and re-roll correctly before torching.
OVERLAPS
Side: 100mm. End: 150 mm.
FASTENING
Fidia Polyester when used as a roofing base sheet, can be mechanically fixed on the substrate by using the correct type of fasteners. Contact Sika Technical Services for additional information.
TORCHING
Use a gas burner to heat the substrate and the backing film on the underside of membrane. When the backing film starts to melt, the membrane is ready to stick. Roll the membrane forward and press firmly against the substrate to bond. Ensure a bead of melted bitumen is visible along the full length of the overlap sides
HOT MELT BITUMEN ADHESIVE BONDING
Choosing the right hot melt
Note: Different hot melt products are compatible with this membrane. Contact Sika® Technical Services for information on choosing the right one for your project.
Preconditions
The hot melt has been applied to the substrate and is still hot.
- Apply the membrane onto the hot melt.
- Roll the surface of the applied membrane with a roller from the centre to the edge to remove any air bubbles.
- Seal the overlaps with hot melt or by torching.
DETAILING
All details such as internal and external corners, upstands, vent pipes, drains, support metalwork etc. must be cut and sealed effectively. Detailing must follow the recommended guidelines and good practice for torch-applied membranes.
